Guest Blog by Wendy Burke & Contest for The One He Chose

When I started writing seriously and subsequently getting published, my coworkers and friends would ask, ‘Where do you come up with this stuff?’

I interpreted that question as ‘Where/what is my inspiration?’ That’s easy…whatever hits me!

Russell Inspires Me

A photo can easily inspire me. If you don’t know me, I’m a huge Russell Crowe fan–and this picture of Russ was all I needed to combine with an afternoon at Loch Lomond to come up with Haste Ye Back. He is my Ian McCallum. The wonderful thing about reading, however, is everyone ‘sees’ characters differently. Your idea of Ian’s appearance may be completely different from mine. And that’s perfectly fine…as long as you like the story.

My story files are full of photos of people, places and settings. I do have to say, experiencing something first hand, like a visit to Scotland which prompted Haste Ye Back, is a more potent inspiration than just a photo. Hmm, wonder if Russell would stop by and sit in my living room for a few hours so I could get some real inspiration?

Right, I’m not holding my breath!

Casey doesn't know he inspires me.

My first Decadent Publishing 1 Night Stand story, The One He Chose, was inspired by this guy–Sean Casey. I have ‘experienced’ him in person, as I’ve seen him play baseball many times. He just seemed like an all-around great guy, and when he’s sweaty, he’s cute as a button! (Uh, if you like that kind of thing!)

Dash doesn’t know either!

Who’s next? I’d have to say Dash Mihok. He’ll show up in the next 1 Night Stand story I’m writing. He’ll grow on you, I promise!

My question, however, is–why can’t I ‘see’ the women? The female characters? The ladies are the ones who end up with these stunning specimens of maleness…you would think I could picture them as well. I do to a point, but not enough to find actual images of them. I guess the girls reside in my head.

If you write or if you daydream, what inspires you?

Summary:

A 1Night Stand Story

All her life something had drawn Bryn Wallace to Scotland. Just weeks before her lifelong dream trip to visit Edinburgh is fulfilled, Bryn’s fiancé dumps her. She’s determined to have a good time, but touring the romantic Highlands is a bit boring alone. And not wanting to troll the pubs, she goes out on a limb and signs up with Madame Eve’s 1Night Stand service.

Divorced Ian McCallum is tired of making decisions, especially when it comes to women. When an old schoolmate suggests 1Night Stand, he figures he has nothing to lose. But, what he doesn’t know is his one-night stand was centuries in the making.

HASTE YE BACK is Wendy’s third book on the Decadent Publishing shelves. She’s in the process of writing 274 more which she hopes DP will be interested in! Find her on Facebook, Twitter and lurking about the internet. You could send her a nasty email-wendyburke1994@bex.net. When not playing with the people in her head, she has silly life with her way-too-cute chef husband and two furry feline kids in the Great Lakes area of the Midwest.

Hi Wendy! Thanks for wonderful pictures. Love Russell Crowe! I am currently reading Haste Ye Back and I love it My Ian is Chris Hemsworth (YUMMY). My Bryn is Keira Knightly. It works for me!
I love your inspiration for The One He Chose. I am with you…there is something about a guy getting sweaty….One reason I love walking into an ice rink when the men are practicing/playing a game. *sniff*

I definitely agree with you about the men and women visions in my head. I can always find men to see but not necessarily the women. I like the fact that you used a baseball pitcher! I’ve been to Scotland and the whole place was inspirational. Edinborough was absolutely beautiful.

  3. Definitely pics of sexy guys are what inspires me:)

I’ve added both of these books to my TBR list. I also like the description for RESPITE too, and might read that one first. My husband is a huge WWII history fan and if I can combine anything from that era, especially a visit to Italy and Morocco then I’m in! Looking forward to reading these books.
