This was a tough list to create! Mysteries span the spectrum from horror/thriller to sweet cozy—and I read all of them!
1.) Daphne du Maurier – my first “romantic suspense”Barbara Parker – wonderfully passionate (for her case, her cause or her man) suspense author who died too young
2.) Frederick Forsyth – Day of the Jackal made me pull for the assassin
3.) Janet Evanovich – she set the standard for the intensely funny, first person amateur sleuth
4.) Tony Hillerman – amazing sense of place and culture
5.) Barbara Parker – wonderfully passionate (for her case, her cause or her man) suspense author who died too young
6.) William Kent Krueger – his beautifully drawn settings are a character in the story
7.) Toni McGee Causey – she grabbed funny and took it on a rocket ride
8.) Ridley Pearson Wonderful ensemble cast – only guy I know who can turn handing off a ring of keys a two-page heart-stopping suspenseful scene.
9.) Margaret Maron – smart—book and people smart—amateur sleuth series set in North Carolina includes Deborah Knott’s extended family
10.) Jonathan King – deeply introspective; another author who beautifully uses settings

I haven’t read any of Daphne Du Maurier but I’ve been wanting to! I saw the movie, ‘Rebecca’ and it was pretty epic!
