Saturday Spotlight, Interview & Contest: Paradox Lost by Libby Drew

I am thrilled to welcome Libby Drew to Book Reviews & More by Kathy. She is one of my favorite authors and I’m super excited that she took the time to answer a few “get to know me” questions for us. And stick around because she is also giving away a copy of her upcoming release, Paradox Lost, an absolutely wonderful futuristic time travel m/m romance!

Kathy: What book do you recommend everyone should read? Do you have a comfort read?

Tough one! Obviously no one book will be universally appealing. But if I were to recommend a single book to a broad audience, it would be a favorite from my childhood: Mandy by Dame Julie Andrews. I loved it the moment I turned the first page. After unearthing it for my own daughter many years later, I find it still holds a special magic. It’s about a young orphan girl who finds an “abandoned cottage” and fixes it up for herself. It’s a story about finding home. Which is something we all strive for, at one time or another. Andrews conveys Mandy’s heart-wrenching journey in an unforgettable way.

In that same vein, any book that gave me pleasure as a young adult is a guaranteed comfort read for me. Another that I return to again and again is Tom’s Midnight Garden, by Philippa Pearce. Tom escapes the prison-like atmosphere of his house by visiting a magical garden that appears whenever the Grandfather clock in his living room strikes the 13th hour. There’s an element of time travel in the story, which is probably why I adored it then, and still do to this day.

These books don’t have the popularity or splash of The Hunger Games or Harry Potter. Instead they deliver a much more subtle message. A quieter one. I miss that in YA books.

Kathy: What is your guilty pleasure?

Movies. I know, I’m supposed to say reading, right? I love going to the movies, and if it didn’t cost so much these days, I’d be there every weekend. Here I go dating myself, but I waited seven hours in line to see The Empire Strikes Back when it first came out. And while I tell my kids I would never do such a thing today, I would in a heartbeat.

Kathy: Favorite meal?

Steak! No disrespect to all you gorgeous vegetarians out there, but I can’t resist Filet Mignon.

Kathy: If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

Very, very bored.

Honestly, I’m not sure. I’ve had a nine-to-five career (project management) and while it was satisfying on some levels, it didn’t own my soul like writing does. I’m very lucky to be able to do this fulltime. Extremely lucky.

Kathy: If you could time travel, what time period would you visit?

Choosing just one would be torture. I’ve always been fascinated by the concept of time travel. Some date far in the future, I think. Experiencing a famous past event is tempting, but I’d be dead curious to see if any of the futures I’ve imagined ever come to pass.

Kathy: Love the answers and I can sooo relate on the time travel question. I think I would be like Reegan (from Paradox Lost) and become a full time traveler! Like you, I am also a steak lover, so if we ever go to dinner together, we won’t have any trouble agreeing on a restaurant 😉 Once again, thank you so much for chatting with us today. Congratulations on the upcoming release and I cannot wait for your next book (no pressure 😀 ).

Now her tycoon husband is demanding her safe return–or Reegan will lose more than just his job.

P.I. Saul Kildare’s business is running on borrowed time. Due to a messy break with the police, he can’t get a referral to save his life. When an enigmatic stranger bangs on his door one night and promises a windfall for a missing-person case, it seems too good to be true. But the two men have an immediate connection, and Saul can’t pass up the chance to spend more time with Reegan, even if he’s clearly hiding something.

Saul knows he shouldn’t trust Reegan, and Reegan knows he can’t get involved with Saul. But as their attraction evolves into feelings neither can deny, will they have the strength to take a leap of faith–together?
