Tour Stop, Excerpt & Giveaway: 100 Days by Mimsy Hale

100 days ban

For today’s stop on the 100 Days blog tour, Mimsy Hale dropped by to answer a few “get to know you” questions for us.

Do you have a favorite book or author you like to recommend? Do you have a comfort read?

I have two books that come under the “Favourite Book of All Time” umbrella: Memoirs of a Geisha by Arthur Golden, and Poison by Chris Wooding, the latter of which is absolutely my comfort read. They’re both very different books, but hold very special places in my heart. I re-read Memoirs of a Geisha every time I travel, and I re-read Poison at least once a year.

 What is your guilty pleasure?

>At the moment, binge-watching shows on Netflix! I can also often be found singing while doing the dishes, using a spoon for a microphone.

 Favorite meal?

Basically anything from Taco Bell, which generally sucks for me because I live in England, and we only have two branches in the whole country! Apart from that, I’d definitely have to say the chicken casserole that my roommate often makes in the winter. Dumplings to die for!

If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

If I was able to get any job in the world, I’d be a singer-songwriter. It would still let me be creative, and to reach out and touch people’s lives with my creativity—which is exactly what I’ve always wanted to do with my writing.

If you could time travel, what time period would you visit?

This is always a difficult question for me, since my views are heavily influenced by my feminist nature. I’m always wondering where in history I would be not only safe, but respected. So I’d really love to go back to around 600 BC and see Sparta, where women were given a good education and encouraged to develop their intellect, and had a lot of influence in society outside of the military.

Of course, I’d also love to hop back a mere twenty years or so to see Frank Sinatra perform live…

Can you tell us a little about 100 Days?

100 Days is the story of Jake and Aiden, two childhood best friends who decide to go on a road trip, visiting all fifty states in the one hundred days between their birthdays. They’ve never crossed the boundary lines of their friendship before, but the further they get into the trip—and the more their time on the road dwindles—the more they come to realise that the road never really runs out, and that you have to be open to love, and figure out with whom you want to travel that road.

What projects are you working on now? Any other projected releases for 2015?

I’m a pretty slow writer, so sadly no other 2015 releases. While going through the editing process for 100 Days, I devoted a lot of energy and focus only to that, and since then I’ve been taking a little time to recharge my batteries. I’m currently toying with two radically different ideas—one for a stand-alone book set in our own reality, and one for a dystopian trilogy. I’m excited for both, and it’s going to be a difficult decision which to write first!

Excerpt

Because anything really could happen, couldn’t it? What if what happened in Philadelphia wasn’t a total mistake, but simply the prelude to Jake finally listening to what his instincts have been telling him for weeks? What if, what if, what if…

“What are you doing? Come see this!” Aiden calls out.

Jake takes a deep breath and steps out of the shadows. Aiden is silhouetted against the fading sun, the light picking out the auburn in his hair, and as he stretches his arms up over his head, one finger hooked through the woven bracelet he bought earlier, he grins out at the horizon. Jake feels as if he’s watching Aiden through brand new eyes; he knows that there is rescue in those arms. Suddenly he wants to fall into them and hold on until he feels safe.

Aiden turns away from the vista, pushes his sunglasses up on top of his head and looks down at Jake, his eyes sparkling with warmth and light. He leans forward and holds out his hand, and he looks… beautiful.
