Hi! I’m J.A. Rock, and right now I’m touring the internet talking about my latest release Pain Slut—Book 2 in The Subs Club series. Thanks so much to the blogs that are hosting me on this tour, and be sure to leave comments on the tour posts for a chance to win your choice of two backlist ebooks and a $10 Amazon gift card!

What is a Vampyre?

In Pain Slut, pain-loving Miles meets a beautiful man named Drix, who has purple eyes and long hair and very pointy canines. They have hot, painful sex and pleasant conversation. And then, in what is perhaps the most Goosebumps-inspired chapter ending I’ve ever written, Drix reveals he’s a vampire.

Okay, not a vampire. A vampyre, with a Y. He’s part of the vampire subculture, an alternate lifestyle with almost as many variations as BDSM. Vampyrism is thought to have originated out of the gothic subculture, influenced by horror, Victorianism, Anne Rice novels, and even S &M. Different covens have different tenets, and there are a variety of vampyre types.

Sanguinarians feed on blood, usually out of a belief that their physical and/or spiritual health is dependent on nourishment from blood. There are willing blood donors within the community, and in some subsets, donors are considered subservient to vampyres. Psychic vampyres feed on spiritual energy. Drix in Pain Slut is a psychic vampire whose interest is in exchanging energy with others. Living vampyres don’t necessarily feed, but they are tied to a set of highly valued ethical principals. And transcendental vampyres are the ones who believe they have an immortal soul.

There are also subsets of the community that are primarily interested in role-play: the costumes, the aversion to daylight, the sleeping in coffins. Just as with BDSM, for some people, vampyrism is a game, and for others, it’s away of life. Vampyres often organize themselves into clans or covens, and may have written doctrines or strict hierarchies.

For Drix, his coven is a social and support network. Drix isn’t looking to drink anyone’s blood, but he does like dressing in all black and hanging out at coven leader Cathy’s house, eating hot dogs. He acknowledges that things like his vampyre name and age are a bit silly. But the coven does serve a serious purpose in Drix’s life. He has a strong interest in helping people get in touch with their bodies and balance their spiritual and physical energy, and the Dark Ravens help foster this interest.

The coven also provides an outlet for Drix’s sadism. While vampyrism is mostly separate from kink and BDSM, there is some intersection between Drix’s coven, which encourages its members to explore the limits of their physical beings, and BDSM. Drix knows how to swing a whip and how to use his teeth to good advantage, but more importantly, he understands the science and psychology of pain, and how to make it into something pleasurable.

Though Miles has some initial trepidation about dating a man he thinks is just playing adult dress-up, what he’s ultimately forced to acknowledge is that Drix seeks the same things out of vampyrism that Miles seeks from kink: strong physical and emotional connections, a community, a way of asserting his identity in an environment where he’ll be accepted no matter what.

The Subs Club Series Book Two
Publisher: Riptide Publishing
Genre: Contemporary, Erotic, M/M, Romance BDSM
Length: 320 pages/Word Count: 84,100

Summary:

Honestly, I’m ready to take a step back from the Subs Club. Making the kink world a safer place for subs is the sort of bandwagon I’d have boarded as an idealist in my early twenties, but now I’m a pragmatist in my late twenties. I prefer to focus on adopting and raising a child.

But unexpected factors inevitably derail my plans. Like Drix Seger—attractive and the first genuine sadist I’ve encountered. If I were not in the process of renouncing my masochistic ways and becoming the normal, responsible potential father the adoption agency wants to see, Drix and I might do well together.

But he has a foolish name and belongs to a cult of vampyres, and I am quitting kink. So why does Drix’s infatuation with blood and biting make me so hot I can’t think straight? And why, when he looks at me, does he seem to see something beyond a basket case with a stick up my ass?

Can I start a new phase in my life without leaving part of myself behind? Please send help.

—Miles

About the Subs Club series

After the death of their friend Hal at the hands of an irresponsible dom, submissive friends Dave, Kamen, Miles, and Gould band together to form the Subs Club—an organization seeking to expose dangerous local doms. The club slowly evolves as romances blossom, loyalties are tested, and tensions mount in a community already struggling for unity in the wake of Hal’s death.

From domestic discipline to knife play to fashion paraphilia, and from family drama to new jobs to first loves, the members of the Subs Club explore life’s kinks inside and outside of the bedroom as they attempt to let go of the past and move forward.

Thank you for the insight into Vampyre culture. While I have heard of it, I wasn’t too aware of what it all entailed and meant. It’s interesting how varied it is, but also not that surprising either. I’m so happy that I found this blog tour. I really want to read this series now.
