The Review:

Moving in Rhythm by Dev Bentham is a heartwarming romance that is sweet yet extremely sensual. When Mark Apolostolos moves in with his pregnant sister in law Lisa while his brother Pete is deployed, the last thing he expects is to fall in love. But one meeting with Seth Miller reveals just how empty and isolated his life has become. With some much needed advice and encouragement from his new friend Claire, Mark finally finds the courage the face his fears.

Mark is an absolutely delightful character and he undergoes tremendous growth throughout the course of the novel. His social anxiety gives him the tiniest hint of vulnerability that is very appealing. Mark slowly begins to interact socially with Lisa and Claire despite the fact that he is uncomfortable and awkward in group situations. Incredibly tongue tied and embarrassed around men he is attracted to, Mark follows his heart and attempts to overcome his incredible shyness to be with Seth.

Despite some initial misunderstandings, Seth is the perfect man for Mark. He is unbelievably patient with Mark, and he instinctively knows the right approach to take with him and their burgeoning relationship. Their romance is understated but filled with emotion.

The secondary cast of characters is well-developed and they all play pivotal roles in Mark’s transformation. Mark’s care of Lisa is touching and helps him realize how important family is. Pete’s astute observations provide insight into Mark’s relationship with their father. But it is his friendship with Claire that has the greatest impact on Mark and his acceptance of his sexuality.

Moving in Rhythm is a fabulous romance with a charming cast of characters. Adding to the novel’s appeal are the distinctive storyline and Dev Bentham’s engaging writing style. If you enjoy novels with close-knit families, cute dogs and slightly flawed but lovable protagonists, then you will love Moving in Rhythm.
