Interview: Jodi Ellen Malpas

Night Promised TB

Kathy: I am thrilled to welcome Jodi Ellen Malpas to Book Reviews & More by Kathy. Thank you so much for taking the time to answer a few questions for us today. I always have to begin by asking what motivated you to become a writer? How long have you been writing, and was it a long process to become a published author?

Thank you for having me, Kathy. Initially I was motivated by myself and my overactive imagination. I wanted to write my own perfect story. Many women lose themselves in reading stories. I lost myself in writing my own. As for the publishing process, I started out self-publishing after sitting on my story for way too long. THIS MAN captured more imaginations than I ever could have hoped or dreamed, and I was soon being approached by agents. From there I got my publishing deal and the rest is history, I guess!

Kathy:  You have an impressive amount of published works. What is a typical day in the life as author Jodi Ellen Malpas? Do you write every day? How long does it take you to complete your novels?

Ha! A typical day in my life? I’ve been attempting for 18 months to construct some sort of firm routine…and failed. My life is a whirlwind, but I love that each day is different. I’m a mum of two boys, so my day usually starts with bombing them out of bed. It’s traumatic. Teenage boys are a nightmare! Once I drop them at school, I pick up my morning coffee from Starbucks then swing by JEM HQ to see my mum who runs the business and my sister who runs me! I like to write every day. I get stroppy if I don’t.

Kathy: I have to confess that I am a huge fan of series and I am delighted that are beginning a second series. Do you always plan for the novels to become a series? What influences your decision to continue the series?

I didn’t plan for neither THIS MAN or ONE NIGHT to be series, but both Jesse and M’s stories are so complex and intense, I felt they both needed the time for my readers to get to know them, and all of the other characters, too. I plan on writing a few stand alones soon. We’ll see how that works out for me!

Kathy: Now for a few nosy get to know you questions. Do you have a favorite book or author you like to recommend? Do you have a comfort read?
Dan Brown is my favourite author. The Da Vinci Code still makes me think deeply, and I read it 4 years ago. It’s the history. I love history.

Kathy: What is your guilty pleasure?

Converse. I’m a little addicted.

Kathy: Favorite meal?

Eggs Benedict/ Eggs Royale

Kathy: If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

I’m a qualified Interior designer, so that’s easy!

Kathy: If you could time travel, what time period would you visit?

The Tudor era – Henry VIII in particular.

Kathy: Could you tell us a little about One Night: Promised? What is next for the series?

One Night – Promised is a totally new story, with new characters. It would have been very easy to write more This Man books knowing the demand is there, and maybe I will one day, but the character we know as M was so vivid in my mind, it all came very easily to me. He’s very different from Jesse. He’s dominant and intense, but more subtly so than our lord. One Night is definitely a little darker than This Man, though I followed my previous rule, which was to please myself when writing – not write what I think people want to read.

Kathy: Thank you again for chatting with us today. Congratulations on the release of One Night: Promised and I am very much looking forward to reading the next book in the One Night series.

Thank you!

JEM x

Summary:

The new breathtaking novel from the #1 New York Times bestselling author of the This Man trilogy

ONE NIGHT WILL NEVER BE ENOUGH . . .

Livy notices him the moment he walks into the coffee shop. He’s heart-stoppingly stunning, with a blue-eyed gaze so piercing she’s almost too distracted to take his order. When he walks out the door, she thinks she’ll never see him again. Then she finds the note he left on his napkin . . . signed M.

All he wants is one night to worship her. No feelings, no commitment, nothing but pleasure. Every defense mechanism Livy has adopted during her solitary life is at risk of being obliterated by this confounding man. He’s obnoxious but well-mannered. He’s a gentleman but aloof. He’s passionate but emotionless. Yet the fascination is so powerful, Livy can’t deny him . . . or herself.

M awakens something in Livy, something deep and addictive that she never knew existed-and that she fears only he can satisfy. But she senses that behind the fast cars, fancy suits, and posh apartment, he’s aching inside. To have him, body and soul, she’ll have to brave his dark secrets. Delving into his world and breaking down his defenses become her obsession-an obsession that could shatter her heart beyond repair . .
