Please welcome author Lena Diaz to Book Reviews & More by Kathy! For today’s stop on her virtual for Take the Key and Lock Her Up, Ms. Diaz graciously answered a few “get to know you” questions for us.

Kathy: What book do you recommend everyone should read? Do you have a comfort read?

Thanks for having me here today, Kathy! Wow, this is a hard question. I have so many books on my keeper shelf that it’s hard to choose. Limiting my choice to romantic suspense I guess I’d have to say that everyone who loves this genre should read Mr. Perfect by Linda Howard. The chemistry between the hero and heroine is palpable and the story is full of sexual tension and laugh out loud humor. The best scene in the book is a car wash scene. Seriously! The dialogue in that scene will stay with you and is some of the most witty, fun, and sexy dialogue I’ve ever read. As for a comfort read, one of my all-time favorites is Saving Grace by Julie Garwood. This is a historical romance set in medieval times. The story is so complex and emotional, probably her best novel ever. And even though I’ve probably read it a dozen times, every time I read it I pick up on some nuance I missed before.

Kathy: What is your guilty pleasure?

Eating. Period. I struggle with my love of food and it shows (sigh). I’m a stress eater and I stress a lot so, well, there you have it.

Kathy: Favorite meal?

Southern anything. If it’s breaded, fried, or has gravy on it I love it. One of the curses of being raised in the south–great, high-calorie, clog-your-arteries food. I suppose homemade meatloaf, mashed potatoes, and gravy would be high up there in my list of favorites.

Kathy: If you weren’t a writer, what would you be?

I wish I could say that I write full time but, alas, I have a day job that pays the mortgage. I’m a computer programmer, one of those old dinosaurs who still codes in COBOL on a mainframe. It’s been a lot of fun actually so I chose my career well. But I dream of the day that I feel secure enough as a writer to take the plunge and write full time. I’d give up abends and late night emergency calls quicker than an alligator can snap its jaws if I had the choice.

Kathy: If you could time travel, what time period would you visit?

Having a child with type-1, insulin-dependent diabetes means I would NEVER travel BACK in time to before we had the ability to give insulin shots and use blood glucose monitors. So I suppose the only time period I would ever choose would be the future, to whenever the cure for diabetes is finally found.

Kathy: Thank you so much for chatting with us today. It was a pleasure getting to know you and I wish you much success with your new release.
