I Love Where I Write!

Thank you to Book Reviews and More by Kathy for hosting me today.

I really, truly do love to write. That’s probably a good thing since I do an awful lot of it.

When I decided to spend a significant part of my day writing books I also decided I needed a dedicated space. I already had my computer in a separate room a.k.a. my office. My writing space has undergone many changes since I moved into this house about twelve years ago. It’s one of my favorite places in my home. This room is not only where I do a large percentage of my writing, but all of my editing.

With every book release, there is a flurry of guest blog spots and since I write most of them in my office, I thought I’d invite you into my home and show off the where I spend a part of every day.

All the painting and paneling I did myself. Most of my furniture is repurposed, or something I bought unfinished then stained myself. I ‘rescued’ some of the furniture from the curb, the chair my dog likes to sleep in was a hand-me-down from a co-worker’s elderly aunt. The little hutch was designed and built by my ex-husband and I. During our marriage, we made several pieces of wood furniture as a hobby.

I like to hang my book covers and of course I have shelves full of books. I’m a big astronomy and archaeology buff and keep all my books and magazines in my office as well. There are a few things I like to collect, mugs, animal statues, fandom curiosities and of course books. The room is sort of a museum of all my interests. You’ll notice in one of the pics included that I also have a mascot, that’s Rosie, my live office ornament.

All in all, it’s a pretty comfy cozy room and I do like the opportunity to show it off!

Excerpt

Lucas leaned over Declan’s shoulder. “What do you suppose is in the box?”

“Unfortunately vampires don’t have X-ray vision,” Declan said and held the box over his shoulder.

“Thanks!”

Declan shrugged. “I don’t want you drooling down my back while you stare at it over my shoulder.” He turned in the chair in time to see Lucas give the box a gentle shake. “Don’t do that. What if you break it?”

Lucas gave him an innocent look. “Nothing made noise.”

“That look will fool no one, particularly me. I have some sense of what you feel, remember?”

“How could I forget?” Lucas mumbled and turned the box over in both hands.

“Lucas, put the box down. It’s addressed to Blair.” Jonas walked through what they affectionately referred to as the Shed. In actuality it was a completely secure Faraday facility where all their official communications with Vampire Guard HQ took place. The outer façade looked like an actual gardening shed, which gave it the name. Their computer and other electronic equipment for official uses were kept there. A fully equipped gym and a secure room for Lucas when his full moon change hit took up the level below.

Jonas stopped in the middle of the sunken center section—the Pit is what Lucas had nicknamed that area—and aimed a remote at the wall of computer monitors. A press of a button and the black screens with the red rotating VampX logo vanished, replaced by a series of desktop screens with e-mail, pending video feed, and an assortment of other information waiting for them to view.

“Blair is still recuperating, and when he gets in here, he’ll open it, and I’m sure he’ll show you,” Jonas said. His back was to them, but his terse tone was plain enough. Blair was hurt, so Jonas was irritable. Declan and Lucas both used the same strategy with Jonas when he was cranky: give him a wide berth and an abundance of patience.

When Jonas turned far enough to arch an eyebrow at Lucas, he set the box on Blair’s desk. Declan thought he gave it a wistful gaze. “Sophie sent us some files from the local PD among a few other tidbits involving the Wi-Fi outages and the man you caught,” Jonas grumbled.

Lucas used two fingertips to push the box farther across the desk. Jonas twisted on his heels to face Lucas and Declan directly, and Lucas put his hands behind his back and glanced up at the ceiling, humming softly under his breath.

The door to the Shed opened, and Blair moved through, swinging between his crutches. “Did I get a delivery?

Author Bio

e nobleElizabeth Noble lives by the adage “I can’t not write”. She can’t remember a time when she didn’t make up stories and eventually she learned how to write them down. A part of every day is spent living in worlds she created that are filled with intrigue and espionage. Using a real love of scifi and urban fantasy highlighted by twisty plots she crafts stories taking place in a slightly altered version of our world.

When she’s not chronicling the adventures of her many characters Elizabeth is a veterinary nurse living in her native Cleveland, Ohio. She shares her little brick house with an adorable canine princess and her tabby cat side-kick. Elizabeth is a fan of baseball, basketball (go Cavs and Indians!) and gardening. She can often be found working in her ‘outside office’ listening to classic rock and plotting her next novel waiting for it to be dark enough to gaze at the stars.

Elizabeth received several amateur writing awards. Since being published two of her novels have received honorable mentions in the Rainbow Awards. Her novel Jewel Cave was a runner up in the 2015 Rainbow awards in the Gay Mystery/Thriller category.
