September’s Reading Challenge: Read a Book Featuring a First Responder

This month’s reading challenge is… Read a book in which a lead character is a first responder. Soldiers, police, fireman and paramedic all fit the bill!

A funny thing happened between the time I decided on this month’s challenge and the books I ultimately ended up selecting. I had two books in mind, but by the time I sat down to write this post, I completely changed my mind on both books!

For my first selection, I was originally planning to pick a book starring a fireman. But when I began going through my books, Missing, Presumed, Susie Steiner’s first installment in the DS Manon series caught my eye. First of all, the book is set in England and second, the lead character is a woman who is also a mother. More often than not, when the lead protagonist is female, she does not typically have children. Plus the summary piqued my attention (click HERE to see what the novel is about). I am very much looking forward to immersing myself in Manon Bradshaw’s world.

I was initially planning to read a novel starring a soldier but when I found out the second book in Lisa Henry’s Emergency Services series is releasing this month, I was so excited that I decided to read Lights and Sirens. I ABSOLUTELY loved Two Man Station so I cannot wait to read book two.

Lights and Sirens ticks two of the first responder boxes since one of the characters is a paramedic and the other is a police officer. And BONUS- the novel is set in Australia! (Click HERE to read the summary.) Release day is September 13th so I just have a couple of weeks to wait to read their story.

Now, it’s your turn to decide which career catches your fancy. Will it be a sexy fireman? A heroic soldier? A commanding police officer? Or a nurturing paramedic? Leave a comment and let us know which book you are going to read this month. We’ll check back in next month and see if you met your challenge and whether or not you enjoyed your selection!

Happy Reading!

If you participated in last month’s challenge, check out the discussion post HERE and let us know if you met your challenge!
