Summary:

SWFG: Single, White, Female, Geek.

That’s me, Lexi Carmichael, a reformed hacker who was gainfully employed by the National Security Agency. But a series of extraordinary events led me to leave government life behind for a fresh start with a brand-new company and an incredibly sexy boss, Finn Shaughnessy. It may not be kosher to have the hots for your boss, but he seems to have the hots for me, too. If only things didn’t get so complicated…

Darren Greening, a genius researcher from Flow Technologies (our first client!) is missing, and his bosses think I’m involved. And they aren’t the only ones—the man who nearly snapped my neck in the parking garage thinks so, too.

Now I’m caught in the middle of a complex and dangerous case. I’ll have to use all my geek skills and a little help from my friends to solve the mystery of Darren’s disappearance before Neck-Snapping-Man makes a return visit…

The Review:

Lexi Carmichael is back and better than ever in No One to Trust the second installment in Julie Moffett’s delightfully engaging detective series. No longer working for the National Security Agency, Lexi , along with her sexy new boss and possible love interest Finn Shaughnessy, is hot on the trail of missing genius Darren Greening.

Lexi Carmichael is an absolutely charming heroine. She is scary smart, socially awkward and completely blind to her beauty. She is refreshingly honest and while she is brilliant in the computer world, she is totally clueless in social situations. Luckily good friend Basia Kowalski is Lexi’s complete opposite and she is there to guide her through the complexities of shopping and dating. Basia’s attempts to help Lexi connect with her sexuality are some of the wildest, zaniest and most hilarious scenes in No One to Trust.

The secondary cast of characters is equally likeable and well drawn. Finn Shaughnessy is good looking and oozes sex appeal. But he has some pretty stiff competition for Lexi’s affections. Slash, the intriguing and mysterious government agent, turns up with regularity to lend Lexi a helping hand. And all of a sudden, Lexi seems to be noticing friend and fellow computer genius Elvis Zimmerman in a more romantic light.

No One to Trust is an intriguing and fast paced novel. It has an appealing cast of characters that are three dimensional and realistic. Julie Moffett’s use of the tech industry sets the stage for unique and thought provoking mysteries. But the biggest mystery that still remains to be solved is which man will Lexi ultimately end up with. Maybe Ms. Moffett will provide more clues in the next Lexi Carmichael novel.
